The Magic ARRI ViewFinder is a valuable tool for professionals in the filmmaking industry. It provides a precise framing preview for the camera and lens combination you will be shooting with, allowing you to visualize the field of view on your iPhone or iPad. This app is particularly useful during preproduction, as it helps you plan your shots accurately.
It's important to note that while the app functions as a stand-alone tool, it does not turn your Apple device into an external monitor.
The app features ad banners, but these can be disabled through an additional in-app purchase in the 'About the App' menu.
With Magic ViewFinder, you can easily determine the exact field of view for your future shot. Simply select your camera from the menu and adjust the focal length of the lens using the wheel interface. The app supports various cameras and formats, including Alexa Classic, XT, SXT, LF, and Amira, with different sensor modes available.
In addition to simulating tele adapters and anamorphic optics for your camera, Magic ViewFinder also allows you to apply commonly used color presets, known as LUTs, to the live picture. This feature enhances your ability to visualize the final shot.
If you find a view that suits your needs, you can save it for future reference. The app allows you to include additional data such as focal length, date and time, and camera/lens information when saving a view.
During the photo-taking process, you have control over exposure and autofocus settings. There is an option to lock exposure and toggle autofocus on and off to ensure optimal control over captured images. The app offers constant auto-focus mode or the ability to temporarily lock focus. You can also tap on objects in the live screen to activate focus-locked mode.
The white balance feature supports Auto, Locked, or Manual mode.
If the field of view of your real camera is wider than your in-device camera, the app adds padding around the image to compensate. This is a unique solution developed by Magic ViewFinder that sets it apart from other viewfinder apps.
It's worth mentioning that the position of your iPhone or iPad should correspond to the 'nodal point' of your real lens, which is located in the middle of the lens. This 'nodal point' is considered the weighted center of the optics.
The app's ad policy ensures that ads are non-intrusive. However, if you prefer an ad-free experience, you can turn off ads through an in-app purchase.
